My Education: I hold a Jurist Doctorate from Michigan State University. I have deep roots in the local community of Lee and Collier Counties. I received a Bachelors Degree from Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). Since obtaining my Florida Bar License, I have been a practicing attorney in the Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, and Glades County areas. I am very familiar with all the judges in all of these counties and they are familiar with me. I have handled both criminal and civil cases.
My Work Ethics: I am workaholic. I do not fear all nighters. I often work on my client's cases throughout the night. I am personally involved in all of my cases. I keep personal contact with all of my clients. I return all of my calls within a short amount of time. Unlike some attorneys that say they can be reached 24-hours a day, but not really, I guarantee you that I can be reached 24-hours a day through my cell phone. I treat all of my clients as if they were the only clients that I have. I have an open door policy. You do not need an appointment to stop by to see me or to call me. Simply call or stop by and I will drop everything that I am doing to assist you. If I am with another client, then I will politely ask you to please wait and I will get back with you or take your number, so that I may call you back.

Attorney Melissa Barris
My Name is Melissa Barris and I am happy to have this opportunity to share a little about who I am.
My Background: I was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina on Camp Lejeune Marina Corps base. Both of my parents were in the military and I spent most of my childhood travelling from one adventure to another. These experiences taught me the meaning of true integrity and honor and how to relate and adapt to different cultures and situations.
My Education: After graduating from Florida Gulf Coast University with a Bachelors in Arts, I went to Nova Southeastern University in sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I acquired my Jurist Doctorate degree at Nova Southern University. It was a great experience attending Nova Southern University.
My Career: Since retaining my Florida Bar License I have worked in the areas of Family Law, Dependency, Foreclosure Defense, Small Claims, Civil and Criminal Law. I have worked both on this coast and on the east coast and I am very familiar with the court systems in both areas.
I am a people person. I tend to treat my clients as people and not as a number. I know all of my clients by name and see to it that I am available for my clients.
